- Always switch off the power supply at the mains switch. Always remove the fuse where possible.
- Remove the old accessory from the wall.
- Make sure the wall box is secure and free from debris.
- If there are more than two fixing lugs in the box, bend the old ones not required out of the way.
- When disconnecting the wires, make a note of the colour and positions to help when you re-connect.
- When connecting your new accessory use the diagrams overleaf as a guide to help you. Make sure only the copper core of the cable enters the terminals, ensuring there are no stray strands.
- The brass or chrome plate must be earthed by connecting the earth wire to the earth terminal on the accessory and by connecting an earth wire from the accessory to the box.
- Screw the accessory to the wall, being careful not to trap any wires between the plate and the wall.
- Use the PVC Gasket provided if the surface has been newly painted or plastered. This will prevent discolouration of the product.
- Replace any fuse disconnected, then turn on the mains switch.

Telephone Sockets
- Master sockets should only be fitted by an authorised engineer.
- Secondary sockets are for adding extensions. These may be from a Master socket or from another Secondary socket. The procedure is the same for both arrangements. The maximum number of extension sockets is normally 5.
- The unit is mounted on a 1-gang flush mounting box (wall box) with a minimum depth of 25 mm .
- On the reverse side of the socket there are two rows of connectors each having 3 slots/connectors as shown in Fig.1 below. Terminals are connected using 4-core telephone cable. Terminals 2, 3, 4 and 5 on the master socket are connected to terminals 2, 3, 4 and 5 on the secondary socket. As long as the same cable colour is used for the same terminal on each socket, the actual colours used are not important.
- To attach the wire to the connectors, position the wire as shown in Fig. 2 leaving 12 mm overhanging. Press the wire into the connector - see Fig. 3 remove any excess wire.
- The brass plate MUST be EARTHED by connecting an earth wire from the terminal on the socket to the earth terminal in the flush mounting box. Ensure that the earth terminal in the mounting box is connected to earth. If earth wire is bare it should be sheathed in green/yellow sleeving.
Blanking Plates
When replacing an existing accessory with a blanking plate ensure that the ends of any cables are correctly terminated and insulated prior to fitting the blank plate.
Important
The layout of the terminals may differ from the instruction leaflet diagram. Carefully check the location of the terminals before wiring.
